How to Service the Heated Oxygen Sensor on Ford Escort?

The service of Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by disconnecting the HO2S electrical connector. Service the HO2S by first extracting it through the following steps while leaving out the exhaust manifold heat shield due to the need for clarity. The reinstallation process should be identical to the service order.

How to Service and Repair Oxygen Sensor on Ford Focus?

The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) should be serviced and repaired by first hoisting the vehicle at neutral position. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Service vehicles with secondary air injection by removing the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve heat shield after disconnecting the electrical connector and detaching the wiring retainer. You should reinstall the heat shield following its installation. The exhaust manifold heat shield needs its four retaining bolts thoroughly removed while you place the shield aside for reinstallation with a torque of 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). The sensor removal requires penetrating and lock lubricant for lubrication purposes before using a 22-mm crowfoot wrench to extract it while achieving a torque of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). Vehicles without secondary air injection require users to detach the wiring retainer while disconnecting the electrical connector followed by unsnapping the electrical connector heat shield. Apply lubricating oil to the HO2S and use the 22-mm crowfoot wrench to uninstall it by tightening the sensor to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) during installation. The electrical connector locking tab needs to be engaged along with proper retention of sensor wiring through all retainers so that the wire remains away from hot surfaces and out of reach of sharp edges. Zinc anti-seize lubrication should be applied to sensor threads before reinstalling. The correct reverse order needs to be followed for full completion of the operation.
