Tighten the camshaft forward with a large screw driver or pry-bar between the camshaft sprocket and the block and read the dial indicator to compare with the end play; change the camshaft thrust plate if the reading is very large. For timing the chain and tensioner, remove the chain cover, superimpose crankshaft and camshaft timing marks, and then locate a top chain link; position a ruler above the chain. Having installed the wrench on the camshaft sprocket bolt turn it counter clockwise with a 15 ft lbs while ensuring the crank shaft does not turn thus noting where the mark falls on the ruler. New secondary timing chain tensioners must be installed if the old ones were removed, and the tensioner is correctly installed when a "snap" sound is heard. Align the colored links with the marks on the VCT units and install the chain on the backside of the VCT units, ensuring the two VCT units align with the dowel pins on the front of the camshafts. Use new bolts to install the VCT units and tighten them to the specified torque. Once the secondary chains and VCT units are installed and aligned, install the primary timing chain, aligning the colored links with the marks on the sprockets. After all components are installed and aligned, pull the pins holding back the two primary chain tensioners. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal, then carefully rotate the crankshaft by hand through at least two full revolutions. Finally, install a new oil filter, add engine oil and coolant, run the engine, and check for leaks.
