How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal with a Retainer Plate on Ford F-150?

The process for repairing the crankshaft main bearing seal starts with removing the flexplate then proceeding to take off the engine-to-transmission spacer plate and oil pan. The Impact Slide Hammer in combination with the Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Remover helps detach the crankshaft oil slinger that should be thrown out. You need to extract the crankshaft rear seal using both the Impact Slide Hammer alongside the Crankshaft Rear Seal Remover before discarding the seal. Bolt removal from the six holes securing the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate must be conducted. Slight cleaning using a plastic scraping tool safeguards the sealing surfaces before using silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep according to packaging instructions to block possible future oil leaks. The engine block receives a bead of gasket maker at the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate mating surface. Then install the retainer plate using six bolts which should be tightened at 10 Nm force. Clean engine oil should be applied to the inside of the new crankshaft rear seal before installation with the help of two Crankshaft Rear Seal Installers. For the installation proceed with the Crankshaft Rear Seal Installers and Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Installer to fit the crankshaft rear oil slinger. First attach the oil pan followed by the engine-to-transmission spacer plate and then secure the flexplate.

How to Service and Repair the Rear Crankshaft Seal on Ford Ranger?

The service and fixing of the crankshaft rear seal begins by removing the flexplate or flywheel followed by removal of the crankshaft spacer plate and crankshaft spacer. The initial crankshaft rear seal lacks speedy metal parts but new replacement items include them; however removal of speedy parts happens with two screwdrivers or small pry bars. The main priority during crankshaft rear seal removal is to protect the running surface from damage because such damage could lead to oil leakages. Operation of the Oil Seal Remover should be utilized to extract the crankshaft rear seal. Installation of the crankshaft rear seal requires removing its speedy sleeve first which comes with the new seal by cleaning the sealing surface with extra-fine emery cloth or steel wool before lubricating it with clean engine oil. Secure the Adapter for 303-579 to the crankshaft rear oil seal screws before putting the crankshaft rear seal with its speedy sleeve on the adapter and screws. The Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer helps place the crankshaft rear seal onto its corresponding speedy sleeve then you can continue with crankshaft spacer installation and spacer plate placement and end by installing the flexplate or flywheel.
