Since the tailgate latch needs repair, the tailgate needs to be opened and the screws on the access panel removed. Take out the latch by unscrewing 2 screws and disconnect the latch rod. To install, invert the procedure and apply Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA, making sure latch release rods are loose.

How to service the tailgate latch on Ford Ranger?

To replace tailgate latch, take out the access cover and screws, unconnect the latch release link, and loosen out the support cables. Take it off by unscrewing latch bolts. To install, remove slack on the release link, screw it in place and undo what has been undone.
