Q: How to Properly Maintain the Trailing Arm on a Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Start the trailing arm service by taking off the toe link along with the parking brake cable bracket bolt then tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs) whenever reattaching it. The new bolt should replace the discarded trailing arm bolt and you must torque it to 300 Nm (222 ft. lbs.) at the vehicle height when stationary on flat ground. Take out the three wheel knuckle bolts as well as the trailing arm then dispose of these components since they cannot be reused. Reinstallation requires wheel knuckle bolt torque to 275 Nm along with following the reverse order of the removal process to finish the installation. The correct operation and performance of the suspension system requires the use of new identical part numbers with correct torque specifications during installation. Reassemble the suspension system by keeping its fasteners in their correct initial positions.
